Şehsuvar Bey Street Wooden Architecture

From Cinci Square (Cinci Meydanı), I headed to Kadırga Parkı, which is located one and a half hundred meters to the northeast. These two public spaces are connected by a very interesting street, built up with two-storey houses, mostly wooden. This is a great example of the architecture of old Constantinople, it was such houses that made up most of the Sultanahmet district in the 19th century and earlier. This was the cause of several catastrophic fires, despite this, some streets have retained the appearance of that era. By the middle of the 20th century, many houses were pretty dilapidated, richer people moved to more comfortable neighborhoods, and mostly the poor lived here. With the development of mass tourism in the neighborhoods around famous architectural and historical monuments, old houses began to be massively rebuilt into hotels, many of which retained their authentic appearance. Şehsuvar Bey Street is located a couple of blocks west of the mosque known as Little Hagia Sophia (Küçük Ayasofya Camii) and I did not meet any tourists here, however, I counted about a dozen hotels as well as several cafes and shops.
